ubuntu-standard doesn't depend on libpam-foreground

Bug Description

The ubuntu-standard metapackage doesn't depend on libpam-foreground or anything with pam for that matter. We are using d-i to install and noticed that the default /etc/pam.d/common-session references pam_foreground.so, and produces errors in the logs because it is not installed by default.

Alternatively, this could be considered a bug against libpam-runtime

I had this issue on my Hardy system.

If I run a command through sudo, I get these messages in my /var/log/auth.log file:

PAM addding faulty module: /lib/security/pam_foreground.so
PAM [error: /lib/security/pam_foreground.so: cannot open shared object file or directory]
PAM unable to dlopen(/lib/security/pam_foreground.so)

Manually installing libpam-foreground makes the errors go away and fixes the problem.

One way or another, this package should be installed by default. It needs to be a dependency of some package or another.

It was intentionally removed:

remove libpam-foreground; packages which need it need to depend on it explicitly

libpam-runtime is the only thing I see that ships a configuration file including pam_foreground.so, so it should also provide the package relationship.

I ran into this while debugging a gnome-keyring problem on mobile.

Please see attached patch, it seems to work for me on one of our mobile images. This is my first time messing with a debian/control file, so I'm not 100% sure of my fix...

This was already fixed a while ago:

pam (0.99.7.1-5ubuntu5) hardy; urgency=low

  * debian/local/common-session: Drop libpam-foreground. It's gone for good,
and we do not want this in the PAM config for new installations, since it
just spams syslog with error messages. (LP: #198714)

We cannot remove it on upgrades, since we do not know what the user did to his system in the meantime (and libpam-foreground will not be removed automatically on upgrades).

Nowadays ConsoleKit writes similar tags to /var/run/console/, thus this supersedes libpam-console.
