Bug Description

When I try to install retchmail (which Provides popclient), ubuntu-desktop is
uninstalled because it depends on fetchmail and not in the virtual package that
both (fetch and retchmail) provides, popclient.

This is the same old FAQ about what ubuntu-desktop is meant to do, but this
particular case raises a question:

what is fetchmail doing in desktop, anyway?

I've got no problem with fetchmail (of course, because I use it), but what is procmail doing in *ubuntu-desktop? ubuntu-desktop should depend on

Matt, it may be a FAQ, but it isn't being adequately answered.

Indeed, fetchmail and procmail don't really belong in the desktop install
anymore, now that it doesn't include unix-style mail. They'll be removed in the
future.

Can I ask where you looked for an answer before coming to Bugzilla? That will
help us decide the best place to document it.

ubuntu-desktop exists to provide the standard set of desktop packages. If you
choose to remove some of them, we assume that you don't want the system to
continue to track new versions of this package set. It isn't a bug that
ubuntu-desktop is removed in some situations.

fetchmail has been removed from the desktop seed for Dapper. The next
ubuntu-meta upload will not include it in ubuntu-desktop.
