Bug Description

On Ubuntu MATE "Cosmic" 18.10, the extra codecs pack option that appears either in Start → Updates & extras (Welcome) or in the Audio & Video section (Boutique) can't be installed (or uninstalled if already there from a previous version) because of missing gstreamer1.0-fluendo-mp3 package in the Cosmic repos.

I'm not sure if it's a mistake, as it is still listed as recommended for ubuntu-restricted-addons but is noted as unavailable (https://packages.ubuntu.com/cosmic/ubuntu-restricted-addons) and should be fixed upstream, or if it's been replaced by a different package and should be fixed in the Boutique.

Ok but do you know if it's not been ported to Cosmic on purpose (and they just forgot to remove it from the ubuntu-restricted-addon recommended packages) or if it's a mistake? If it's on purpose, there's no real point in reporting it.

Anyway, my bug report is a bit of a different case, as the "extra codecs" from the Boutique/Welcome doesn't seem to install ubuntu-restricted-extras but a specific list of packages that you manage (in the Boutique config files or source code). If the problematic package has not been ported to Cosmic on purpose and is removed from ubuntu-resdtricted-extras, the issue will still happen with the Boutique/Welcome.

And as the Boutique wants to specifically install this missing package, I was hoping that you would help report it upstream: as developers of Ubuntu MATE that need it in your software, you'll probably have a bit more weight to have this fixed faster.

(Just in case, I opened a bug report for ubuntu-restricted-addons: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-restricted-addons/+bug/1798831. Let's just hope it will be addressed before 19.04.)

Thank you terzag for opening the other report. From there it was confirmed the package was intentionally removed in 18.10. It will be removed from Software Boutique too.
