What you expected to happen: When I establish an openvpn-connection with NM, the tray-icon should reflect that with a lock-symbol.

What happened instead: The icon changes to an missing? icon or something like that. Take a look at the attached screenshot..

Theme: Ambiant-MATE
ubuntu-mate-artwork: 20.04.2

I finally can solve it.

Just overwrite a few icons located at /usr/share/icons/Ambiant-MATE/status/22 , the icons installed by Ubuntu Mate 20.04.1 seems to be damaged. The icons are at attachment file.

You must do it as root.

The attachment "nm signal secure icons.tar.gz" seems to be a patch. If it isn't, please remove the "patch" flag from the attachment, remove the "patch" tag, and if you are a member of the ~ubuntu-reviewers, unsubscribe the team.

Thanks to chipseu! Fixed the icons for VPN on wifi. Looks like the wired one is still broken though.

It didn't fix the problem here.
I did copy and replaced the icons in "/usr/share/icons/Ambiant-MATE/status/22" using the icons from the .tar.gz.
It didn't work. I tryed to reboot but still nothing.
Do I need to run any command to "refresh" those icons? Is there a cache of it or something?

Not working for me either even after an icon cache refresh

Hi!

While this commit https://github.com/ubuntu-mate/ubuntu-mate-artwork/commit/6f08b56bc2cbbd3f003c988ecd24436866f1527c fixed the files, but it seems to me that the fixed files still does not appeared in Ubuntu Mate 20.04.

This bug is still unfixed for wired connections...

If one opens and saves the file "status/22/nm-device-wired-secure.svg" with inkscape as a regular SVG file, this cures the problem also for wired connections. I attach the file here for reference.

Please also note the very same procedure needs to be done also for the "Radiant-MATE" set.

Thanks and best greetings!

My log was:
Nov 4 09:43:05 TT12 mate-indicator-[3453]: Could not load a pixbuf from icon theme.#012This may indicate that pixbuf loaders or the mime database could not be found.

It works for me to open an save icons with Inkscape

Another quick workaround is:

sudo ln -sf ../../../ubuntu-mono-dark/status/22/nm-device-wired-secure.svg /usr/share/icons/Ambiant-MATE/status/22/nm-device-wired-secure.svg
sudo ln -sf ../../../ubuntu-mono-light/status/22/nm-device-wired-secure.svg /usr/share/icons/Radiant-MATE/status/22/nm-device-wired-secure.svg

no longer affects: ubuntu-mate
