More info:
Base layout is the same as QWERTY. Special symbols for EN (i.e. ñ) can be omitted.
Specific characters for Latvian alphabet:
- Ā, ā (under A)
- Č, č (under C)
- Ē, ē (under E)
- Ģ, ģ (under G)
- Ī, ī (under I)
- Ķ, ķ (under K)
- Ļ, ļ (under L)
- Ņ, ņ (under N)
- Ō, ō (under O)
- Ŗ, ŗ (under R)
- Š, š (under S)
- Ū, ū (under U)
- Ž, ž (under Z)

URL ending button should remain .com, but additional options should contain .lv.

If more info is needed, let me know.

Hi Rūdolfs, that's a great start, ideally we'd also need a large sample of public domain or CC-0 licensed text which we can use to build a prediction database, Project Gutenberg it typically a good source for this sort of data. If you were able to find a freely licensed book or similar which represented modern Latvian usage as much as possible that'd be a big help.

Thanks,
 Mike.

Hi Mike, I am afraid freely available texts might be hard to come by. The only database I could find was for educational and research purposes only.

Hi,

I noticed <http://askubuntu.com/q/776541>, filed by a Latvian Ubuntu Phone buyer, and then I noticed this bug report and the request for keyboard layout data. Maybe I'm missing something, but can't

/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/lv

which is present on every Ubuntu desktop be used?

Hi Gunnar,

It's not really further layout information that we need at this stage, but rather suitably licensed text representative of that language's use from which we can build a prediction model

Thanks for trying to explain, Michael. Unfortunately this is somewhat over my head... (Don't understand what there is to predict.)

Would it be possible to add a plain Latvian keyboard layout to Ubuntu Touch in the meantime? Considering that it's shipped with a Latvian display language option, you would expect a Latvian keyboard layout to be present as well.

I did create files "Keyboard_lv.qml", "Keyboard_lv_email.qml", "Keyboard_lv_url.qml", "Keyboard_lv_url_search.qml" and "qml.pro" for Latvian keyboard layout but how I can upload it?

The attachment "QML files for Latvian keyboard layout" seems to be a patch. If it isn't, please remove the "patch" flag from the attachment, remove the "patch" tag, and if you are a member of the ~ubuntu-reviewers, unsubscribe the team.

Hi Andris,

Thanks for submitting those, I'll try to put together a branch and build it in a silo this week to make it easy for you to test out.
