This cannot be reproduced and so far we have no other reports. Can you provide any other information? Do you see any files in /var/crash?

Did it persist after a reboot?

also the logs from /home/phablet/.cache/upstart could be useful

What locale and keyboard do you use?

It did persist after the reboot but I got it fixed: turned the developer's mode off and did again a reboot and after that everything works fine, also in the developer's mode. I have some files in /var/crash and also /home/phablet/.cache/upstart in from this morning. Would you still be interested in them?
I use I believe German as locale and the the keyboards German, English and Emoji loaded.

Hi @pat

Attached the customer's logs and a screen shot with its keyboard layout, hope this will be useful.

@victor this is the behavior you would see when an external keyboard is present, either USB or Bluetooth
We set a key in such a case which can be viewed with
gsettings get com.canonical.keyboard.maliit stay-hidden
Perhaps a BT keyboard is paired to the phone

We opened bug #1515712 but it is probably the same root cause. If so, there is a race at startup that causes the backend server to lock up so the focus events don't get seen. In that case though a reboot should fix it, although it may take more than one per comment #3 as it is just by chance when it does or doesn't enter this state.

Hi everyone,

I'm having a similar issue on my E4.5 with the latest rc-proposed builds, now I'm at r485.

I can reproduce this behavior every time:

1) Open Browser
2) Switch to private tab
3) tap search bar
4) Keyboard won't popup.

So, to fix it I do this:

1) Open message app
2) Create a new message OR tap a existent chat
3) Tap text field
4) Keyboard popup
5) Switch back to browser
6) Keyboard pop ups and fully working

I don't know if my report match to the same bug reported here. If not, sorry :)

Big hug

Hi Ivo,

This looks like a separate issue to the one described in this bug, could you file a new bug report for it against both the keyboard and webbrowser-app (since from your description it sounds like it might be something specific to the webbrowser)

Thanks!

@Ivo: I second Michael’s request, can you please file a separate bug report at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webbrowser-app/+filebug to better track the issue? Note that I am able to reproduce the issue on my krillin.
