Bug Description

wget -O - -q http://geoip.ubuntu.com/lookup
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><Response><Ip>66.18.x.y</Ip><Status>OK</Status><CountryCode>US</CountryCode><CountryCode3>USA</CountryCode3><CountryName>United States</CountryName><RegionCode>TN</RegionCode><RegionName>Tennessee</RegionName><City>Chattanooga</City><ZipPostalCode>37415</ZipPostalCode><Latitude>35.1300</Latitude><Longitude>-85.2907</Longitude><AreaCode>423</AreaCode><TimeZone>America/Chicago</TimeZone></Response>

Everything is correct except that Chattanooga TN is not in Central time. America/New_York would provide the correct timezone for users installing Ubuntu in Chattanooga.

no longer affects: tzdata (Ubuntu)

Does anyone know the appropriate place to report this bug? Chattanooga is still incorrectly placed in Central time.

This is over a year old. The mistake is even older than that. I get that this is the wrong place to ask for corrections for geoip.ubuntu.com. Does anyone know the correct place for asking for corrections. Looking through bugs.launchpad.net I can find other requests for corrections that are older than mine. None of them appear to be addressed. My Google-fu may be failing me but I can not find the correct person to contact to correct these mistakes. Is there an upstream provider that has this wrong? Every one I have tested has the correct, Eastern, response. As far as I can tell only geoip.ubuntu.com has this wrong.

While it is great that this is now 'Confirmed' (it affects all Ubuntu users in Chattanooga, TN). I gave up on this getting fixed years ago. I set up a DNS override and have a web server serving the correct time zone on the LAN. All I was looking for was who is the correct contact for mistakes in geoip.ubuntu.com. If this is a purchased feed and someone upstream needs to be notified, who would that be? I could not find another service with the same mistake. Maybe someone else can.

This post indicates that the source of the data comes from MaxMind.

I checked and MaxMind knows that Chattanooga is in Eastern timezone. It would be wonderful if there was a published method for making corrections. It seems that everyone that gets bad data from this service is just stuck with it.
