[karmic] gdm panel (theme) lacks "polish"

Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-gdm-themes

The bottom panel in the new GDM lacks polish when using the default login theme (the only one available). The widgets are placed right in the middle of the panel, and lacks proper spacing (or padding if you like) - it looks unnecessarily chaotic, and unorganised.

I'm attaching a mockup, with the old theme applied unfortunately (raleigh? don't mind that, i did the mockup some time ago) vs a panel with proper spacing, and padding of panel items / widgets. It's a bit "made up", but the concept still applies. It would be nice if it could resemble tht mockup a bit.
