Bug Description

Got a large number of "W: GPG-errors: http://security.ubuntu.com trusty-security Release: The following signatures could not be verified to open the open key that is not available: NO_PUBKEY 40976EAF437D05B5 NO_PUBKEY xxxx" when trying to sudo apt-get update. Tried to dowload them all again, but didn''t help. Then i tried to sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-extras-keyring, but then this happened, and tthere was an error trying to reinstall that package, so now that install is incomplete. It told me that the subprocess installed post-installation-script returned error code 2, and "E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)"

Note that some of my error-messages are in swedish, so some of this is just a rough translate. If you could help me resolve this, that would be much appriciated..

Flagged as a security vulnerability as I am now forced to install packages without authentication.

Fixed. It was all a problem with GPG-keys. Last entry in this thread fixed it for me:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2237169

sudo rm -R /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d
sudo mkdir /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d

Then downloaded all keys again using Y PPA Manager.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
