Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs
In "Ubuntu Documentation > Ubuntu 9.10 > Switching From Windows > Dual-booting with Windows > Customizing your dual-boot setup," there are instructions for changing the default operating system to boot. These instructions ultimately require the editing of the menu.lst file. It would appear, however, 9.10 does not use the menu.lst file to generate the boot menu or set the default operating system.
The only apparently relevant file I can find that does the same function is grub.cfg, which states at the beginning:
#
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE
#
# It is automatically generated by /usr/sbin/
# from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub
#
In light of that, should not the documentation no longer refer to menu.lst, but rather the appropriate file or files to edit that would result in a desired default operating system?
Should /etc/grub.d and/or the settings in /etc/default/grub be modified or edited instead?
Marking as duplicate of bug 437446, I'll nominate that bug for SRU in Karmic, we should at least add a link to the Grub2 wiki page.
