Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

The 'bridging' section in the Network Configuration guide for 9.04 references stopping and disabling dhcdbd.

https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/serverguide/C/network-configuration.html#bridging

This dhcdbd is not included with 9.04 so this information needs to be replaced with the correct information. This can be confirmed with
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=dhcdbd&searchon=names&suite=jaunty&section=all

Following the information given results in network connectivity being lost.

I can confirm that the package is no longer included in Intrepid, Jaunty, or Karmic. I think we may be able to simply remove the offending pieces of documentation. I don't believe more is needed other than restarting networking when setting up a bridge on a desktop system, but would need to double check with a test. NetworkManager may need to be restarted as well.

I also see a type shortly below where it says "interafaces man page".

This patch removes the portion that talks about dhcdbd. It also fixes the typo mentioned by Connor and updates the link to go to the current version of the man page.

Nathan's patch looks fine if it is the case that restarting networking is all that needs to be done. Can someone test this to confirm?

Yep, I can confirm that only a networking restart is needed. I committed Nathan's patch to revision 301. Thanks Nathan, Connor, and Jim for working on this.
