Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

The documentation on how to search for files in Ubuntu would benefit from being extended to cover more advanced tools like Beagle and Tracker. Ideally, documentation on this topic would cover searching as a whole, and would link to existing docs on basic searching in Nautilus and using Places -> Search for Files... (see below). Installing Beagle/Tracker, starting the indexing process and then basic searching with these tools should then be covered.

Existing docs:
 * file:///usr/share/gnome/help/user-guide/C/user-guide.xml#nautilus-searching
 * ghelp:gnome-search-tool

Is either Beagle or Tracker included by default in Gutsy? If so, definitely the help should cover it. But if not, it would be a bit weird for the help to go into detail about how to use something that probably isn't even installed.

I believe I saw a Main Inclusion Report for Tracker. I'm not sure about being installed by default, but it could be.

Even if not, I think it's a nice idea to tell people about how to
improve their desktop experience.

So we have tracker by default now, I'd imagine this bug should mostly be fixed by having "Places->Search for files" and other nautilus searches use tracker as the backend (assuming they don't already) and improving or locally patching the gnome2-docs if neccessary.

I'm taking this on as my first bug. If anyone wants to offer some guidance about how to tackle this, I'd appreciate it.

It looks like creating a text link in the Yelp document ("Searching For Files" / file:///usr/share/gnome/help/user-guide/C/user-guide.xml#nautilus-searching) connecting it to the existing Gnome docs ("Search for Files Manual") might be the way to go.

Are there other examples in the Ubuntu system documentation which illustrate how to reference, include or otherwise leverage existing gnome documentation?

By using ulinks with "ghelp" URIs. See hardware/C/hardware.xml for some
examples of linking to the gnome user guide (<ulink type='help'
url='ghelp:user-guide#mouse-skills'>Mouse Skills</ulink>)

Michael, are you still planning to fix this bug? If not, please unassign yourself so somebody else can work on it. Thanks!
