Bug Description

Build: Ubuntu China image 2012-04-26

In Ubuntu China image, it seems like the ttf-wqy-zenhei is the default fonts, however ttf-wqy-microhei is better than that in shape, and most Chinese users are using microhei as their default fonts in stock Ubuntu,

Note:
make a symlink 69-language-selector-zh-cn.conf points to ../conf.avail/69-language-selector-zh-cn.conf might fix the problem

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/996896/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, the changes you are requesting aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on an appropriate mailing list or forum. http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists might be a good start for determining which mailing list to use.

../conf.avail/69-language-selector-zh-cn.conf is part of the "fontconfig-voodoo" bad hack that we currently do in language-selector. That is covered by https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-q-deprecate-language-selector .

Adding the font package is a wishlist for ubuntu-defaults-zh-cn. However, the package is very big, so we might run into CD size trouble for precise.

It seems that both WQY MicroHei and WQY ZenHei stuck now, i.e., there is little, if any, new development.
The current state is that WQY ZenHei has more glyphs available (~27,000 VS ~20,000).

I wonder whether you proposed change would cause regression for some users.
