original Human theme is broken

Binary package hint: human-theme

The original Human theme is broken on my Intrepid install. Human-Clearlooks, Human-Murrine and NewHuman work just fine. It looks like a blank/default theme; the titlebar is blue and the buttons are all grey and box-like. Selecting the Human theme produces this error in Appearance Preferences:

"This theme will not look as intended because the required GTK+ theme 'Human' is not installed."

Could this be a missing gtkrc file under /usr/share/themes/Human/? There is no gtk-2.0 folder like in Human-Murrine or NewHuman.

But for now: The window decoration looks really nice. I like that blue :-)

It might be the case. I think that it is either corrupted or someone deleted by mistake

Please note that this bug was also present in Gutsy and Hardy -- it has been an ongoing problem. See the comments in this bug for details:

there was a fix released, the only change being on line 28 of (/usr/share/themes/Human/metacity-1/metacity-theme-1.xml), but apparently something's broken again.

This is not the same bug. That bug was related to titlebar display issues with compiz. This bug is related to the entire theme just not existing.

Right, this bug has to do with the packaging of the theme(s)...believe me, I know because I made the mistake. I have a fix ready but had some weird lock problems with bzr yesterday, fix coming soon.

According to Ken, this has been fixed with an upload of the ubuntu-artwork package. I can confirm that after upgrading and restarting my X session, the human theme appears as expected.

This message appears with many instances and themes.

I made a shorcut to appearance, and launch it as administrator. My appearance window launched in this fashion displays my 'slickness' and 'os v' very nicely - they were indeed installed well in 8.04 (the message saying that the GTK+ theme isn't installed still appears, though it applies the theme well - tabs included)

However, the theme won't apply in the user account - I can have two appearance windows open. Switching in the 'user' window makes the 'root' window follow - only a very few can be applied from 'user', though the others work in root only.

Apparently you still have the gtk theme installed but not the required ubuntulooks gtk2 engine

Intrepid Ibex reached end-of-life on 30 April 2010 so I am closing the
report. Can anyone confirm whether this issue still exists in later versions of Ubuntu?
