Bug Description

synology cloud client is a tool to share and transparently synchronize files between a desktop machine and a Synology NAS.

The client is made of a daemon controlled from an indicator. It doesn't start under unity8.

The following message is displayed on the terminal:

----------
This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "ubuntumirclient".

Available platform plugins are: xcb.

Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
lib path = '/opt/Synology/CloudStation/lib/plugins'

This means the snap does not include the mir QPA and/or doesn't connect to mir-libs?

Not a unity8 bug.

As a separate thing, no support for application indicators was planned in unity8.

1. It is not a snap but a deb distributed by Synology and unity8 as a deb
2. How are these applications distributed by third party vendors supposed to work on unity8?

Sorry, got hung up on snaps.

Seems this deb ships Qt of its own:

lib path = '/opt/Synology/CloudStation/lib/plugins'

So that's likely missing Mir support → this app needs to be launched with Xmir, but more than that it needs to unset QT_QPA_PLATFORM (or set it to xcb).
