Firefox automatic plugin-installer does not work on a Karmic RC live-cd

When you use Firefox a freshly started Karmic RC Live-CD, it might notice in a webpage 'flash-type-plugin' is not installed. It will ask if you want to install a such a plugin on the top of the page with a yellow bar. When you click on it you get the the 3 options: gnash, Flash and libswfdec. When you choose to install Flash it will ask you if you want to enable the universe and multiverse apt-repositories because it doesn't have those yet. If you choose to do so. It will enable them, just fine, but it won't do a apt-get update or a reload as synaptic calls it. So it can't find the package to install it so it fails.

After that you get the same behaviour as in bug #144042. It will say it's installed but really hasn't.

The attachment at comment #1 is the second screen with the error-message. Comment #2 is the screenshot where it asks if you want to enable the repositories. Comment #3 is the screen where it says it succeeded, but actually failed.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. I am moving this to ubufox as that is driving the plugin installation. If someone can confirm this, we can get a developer to look at this. I will try to confirm later today.

I've reproduced this using the livecd build 20091027, getting the error message about multiverse and universe failing to be enabled. Examining /etc/apt/sources.list shows that it has been enabled, but the flash plugin was not installed, despite the dialog saying it was successful appearing.

The plugin finder has been discontinued.
