The screenshot shows version 1.9.15rc1, but the package should provide 1.16.14 instead.

This an (unrelated) error in the package versioning.
If you download http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/u/ublock-origin/webext-ublock-origin_1.16.14+dfsg-1_all.deb and extract it, you can see that /usr/share/webext/ublock-origin/manifest.json contains this:
"version": "1.9.15.101"

I can confirm this issue. I have tested with 1.17.0+dfsg-2 from 19.04 also (the correct version is shown in this case).

However, creating an absolute symbolic link instead did not fix the problem for me either. Only copying over the font did:

$ sudo cp --remove-destination /usr/share/fonts/truetype/font-awesome/fontawesome-webfont.ttf /usr/share/webext/ublock-origin/css/fonts/

Issue is fixed in ublock-origin (1.17.0+dfsg-3):
  * Replace symlink to fontawesome-webfont with a real file again. Firefox
    silently ignored this symlink and icons were not displayed. This also fixes
    the logger window which was empty before. (Closes: #916431, #906911)
