Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

After choosing the option to reboot in the last Ubiquity dialog, the shutdown process begins, but there is no feedback to the user that it has begun. Several seconds can pass before windows start to disappear.

The ideal would be to provide the same experience as a normal logout through gnome-session, where the desktop fades to gray.

A simpler, though effective, solution would be to display a window with a message indicating that a reboot is in progress, so that the user has immediate visual acknowledgement of their command and they know what to expect.

I don't think this is a bug. Please suggest your ideas on brainstorm.ubuntu.com .

I though this was a bug. It used to ask me if I was sure about a shut down but now a pop up window does not show up but after 60 seconds it still shutsdown/reboot. I have tried to press Alt-Tab but nothing.

@PHATTYJ: what version of Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu is that if there is not notice for 60 seconds?

I attempted to reproduce this issue using Ubuntu and Xubuntu Desktop images dated 2010-09-25. I can no longer reproduce this bug. The last Ubiquity dialog shows two buttons in Maverick Meerkat development version (10.10). When "restart now" is clicked, it immediately shades out to show something is happening. Also, a spinner is shown in place of the cursor.
