in testing precise daily, and in accordance with the test case, i first tried out a different keyboard layout (admittedly the chinese one did not produce chinese characters when testing-- i'm not sure if that's to be expected but that's another story) and then clicked "detect keyboard layout." it was at this point that the crash occured.
