It's the 2nd time I try and install Ubuntu but am faced with this crash.

This is likely a duplicate of bug #48355 'partitioner should warn about too small disk while autopartitioning'. If you could attach log files as described in http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs we would better be able to determine if that is the case. Thanks.
