How do I fix it? I'm not a programmer. All I know is html and some BASIC.
that's it.

Could you please attach /var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman to this bug, following the directions in http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs? Thanks in advance.

Could you please attach that at least? /var/log/installer/syslog is not supposed to be present unless you are running dapper. Thanks.

I did attach that. Although it is kinda hard to get them 'cause our laptop
hardly runs off the cd.

They don't appear to have been attached. Just to make clear, we want the files after the installer crashes, not before (so simply booting into the livecd and attaching the files is of no use unless you have tried to install). If you did eventually manage to install Ubuntu after the installer crashed (and provided you didn't restart the livecd), the files could be in /var/log/installer.

Oh I understand. But it usually freezes after I install. Maybe it will work
nest time. Thanks.

I'm sorry I wasted your time. When I tried to install it and send the files
after it crashed, it didn't crash an the installation worked. But thanks
anyway. I'll attach those files if it will be of help in the future.

Thanks for your report. It's not entirely clear why dpkg failed here, but ubiquity's poor response to this event is bug 69470.
