I updated ubiquity and the error was the same. I installed the ubiquity-frontend-gtk and tried that and it failed in a similar way but took longer after step 5. This never gets to step 6 it just fails with that page blank after it scans the disks and the Crashed window.

I tried the amd64 cd but it had the same crash and then I disabled AHCI in the bios but the crash was still the same. Finally I disconnected the IDE hard disk leaving just the IDE CDROM and the SATA hard disk connected and there was no crash and the installation is complete.

So it seems related to the IDE hard disk somehow. I checked from the livecd when it was connected and qtparted showed the drive normally and looked correct. Also it worked fine on the feisty install that I was replacing.

Thanks for your report. Despite the slightly different-looking traceback (the GTK and the KDE frontends differ slightly in their handling of this), this is also bug 76976.
