Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I am installing Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal on an Acer Aspire one with Windows XP home. I am trying dual boot to run Ubuntu beside Windows. I resized the partitions, using the partition editor that came with the install, so that Ubuntu has 100 GB and Windows has 53 GB. At the very end of my installation it failed.

I also would like to mention that I had been running Wubi on this computer for week and uninstalled it in the windows environment before I began the installation on the HDD with a 8 GB live USB.

I've been searching for similar problems and have found some but I haven't found solutions yet. I also think there might be a netbook link to all of the problems I found. I'm trying to install on a netbook and it seems others might have too. Look forward to fixing this problem and will take any suggestions.

Thank you,
John

My problem is not fixed yet but I am able to boot Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. I have not done anything that I know of to make this happen. After I shut down the installation boot (where I was brought to after receiving the installer crash error) using ctrl+alt+delete, I tried rebooting and GRUB appeared so I selected Ubuntu and it loaded.

I haven't had time yet to go through it to see what is working and what isn't but I can post log files from the running 11.04. Please let me know if any log files are wanted now.

Thank you,
John

I'd like to mention that when I booted into Ubuntu 11.04, the launch bar (or dash) contained an app. called install RELEASE.

I opened it and it was the exact same install I used to begin with.

When I got to the step to partition it recognized my 100 GB Ubuntu partition but wanted to install another Ubuntu 11.04 alongside the existing Ubuntu 11.04. This is obviously not what I wanted to do so I closed out of it.

Other than this, I have not found anything different yet than what I had with Wubi.

I'd still like to have this resolved though because something did not install correctly; that is why the installer crash error came up.

Thank you,

John
