installer complains about 'no root fs' although it's selected

During the installation of Ubuntu 6.10 (from a dvd that came with the german magazine c't) the installer wouldn't let me continue with the selection of filesystems, because it complained that I hadn't selected a root fs. Though I _had_ selected a partition as root fs (with the "format" flag checked).

I could continue the installation after formatting the new partition myself with gparted started from the live dvd.

I *think* the mess might have something to do with my aborting the installer after partitioning (which I did because I was confused about the renaming of the partitions... I first deleted partition /dev/hdc7 and created a new partition in its place but didn't realize this process renamed the partitions hdc8, 9 and 10). Then I restarted the installer and selected the new partition (which was now called hdc10) as root fs, but the installer complained about no root fs although.

At the moment I don't have enough space left on my hd to try to reproduce the error.

A question if I may: when you say root partition, you mean the / partition, and not the root user's home directory (i.e. /root). You see, the installer will complain if you don't assign a / partition, but it will be happy if you skip /root (it will just create a directory under the / partition).
