Feisty crashes on install

Bug Description

No problems running Feisty from the live CD, but when I attempt and install, it crashes.

I have verified the CD, have no problems installing other Ubuntu distribs today. After I click install icon I get nothing but a screen with upper half diag lines (blue/wht/grey) and lower half solid pink. Ctrl+Alt+Bksp works to restart the live CD.

This is my first time reporting an error, so if there is a log, or some other info that I can provide --- let me know (as this is probably not enough to diagnose the problem).

Hi, thanks for your bug report. I changed the package name to 'ubiquity', which is the name of the installer program.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Some additional information that you could provide to help troubleshoot this issue are the following:

1) What Feisty install CD are you using? For example Kubuntu or Ubunutu and i386 or amd64?
2) What type of hardware do you have?
3) Please attach /var/log/syslog from the live system.

Thanks,

Brian

I got this same odd video thing right after the keyboard layout. I hit Enter for the default selections. When I got the video mess, I went to Alt Ctrl F1 and then back to the GUI. I now had the next part of the install showing. I went back to the keyboard section and forward again and got a repeat of the pink and gray screen. I then went back to the 1st console and back and all was fine.

It only happened after the keyboard selection section and it was repeatable.

Much later down the road, I ended up with another crash at about 91% loading a module, but that is for another report I think.

I had the same pink/lines problem. It was right after clicking next on the step 4 screen -- selecting keyboard layout. This is the error I got in the terminal (where I ran ubiquity)

Jan 16 11:05:58 ubiquity: Starting up '['log-output', '-t', 'ubiquity', '--pass-stdout', '/usr/lib/ubiquity/user-setup/user-setup-ask', '/target']' for ubiquity.components.usersetup.UserSetup
Jan 16 11:05:58 ubiquity: Watching for question patterns ^passwd/user-fullname$, ^passwd/username$, ^passwd/user-password$, ^passwd/user-password-again$, ERROR

Pressing ctrl-alt-F1/F7 brought me back. It then crashed upon attempting to go to stage 6, partitioning. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/79484

Just wanted to confirm that i had this problem as well. Just fyi:

Selected the default install option (not low graphics.)
Using the herd2 x86 ISO

dont' know anything about this particular machine's graphics card. I have attached syslog.

Herd 3 was released last week and I am wondering if you still have the same issue with it.

I do not get the pink lines with Herd3. The install does not complete, but the crash is now happening much later than where it was. I now get to 91% of the install with a hang at loading aec62xx for IDE chipset. So, I suppose this is a new bug. Should I check for it to see if it has been reported elsewhere?

Thanks,
Anita

Hi Anita,

If it's still happening, yes please (search and/or) report it as a new bug. The original issue in this report is a duplicate of bug 76976, and is bow fixed.
