Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Release: natty x64

Package Version: ubiquity 2.6.9

Use case: User "Joe" wants to test a beta version (or a new version) of Ubuntu in parallel to his existing version of on a USB stick. Joe boots from a LiveCD and choose the target disk to be the USB thumb drive. Since Joe has done it in the past, Joe knows that towards the end of the install process, he will be presented with an "advanced" option which will allow him to specify where to install the MBR. Since Joe doesn't want to have any impact on his existing system, Joe wants to install the MBR onto the USB Stick (with the intention of booting to it by selecting it in BIOS boot menu). Joe doesn't choose to specify the partitions manually as the default ones are sufficient for his purposes.

Expected Results:
The Ubuntu install process shows an "advanced" dialog to choose where to install the MBR.

Actual Result:
The Ubuntu install process doesn't show an "advanced" dialog to choose where to install the MBR (as oppose to previous releases!). Joe goes through the install process only for the MBR to be installed onto his primary disk without an option to chnage it. If the Thumb drive is now removed, Joe cannot boot into his primary system.

ubiquity should allow to choose where to install the MBR like in previous releases

Please click "Try Ubuntu" then run `ubiquity -b` in a terminal window. This will prevent a bootloader from being installed.

Changed in ubiquity (Ubuntu):

Just to clarify, the desired behaviour is to install the boot loader onto the MBR of the target disk the installation is being made to, not to avoid installing a boot loader at all.

The option was there in previous releases (under the "advanced" options), what was the rational to remove it?
