Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

When installing Ubuntu 11.04 from a USB flash disk
after choosing "install OS alongside them"
I get the error message
"An attempt to configure apt to install additional packages from the CD failed."
and then
"Installer crashed
We are sorry; the installer crashed. Please file a new bud report at ..."

This happed twice,
leaving my previous Ubuntu 10.10 useless.

I am attaching /var/log/syslog
but I do not know how to attach the other required file /var/log/portman

The installer is not working for me and I am using a cd and installing on a macbook pro---it just freezes and says something about an io error. I have tried 3 time with both 64bit and 32 bit 11.04 on my mac---no success.

Don,

Please file a separate bug. Run the installer until it crashes and then run `sudo ubuntu-bug ubiquity` from a terminal window.

Pavel,

I'd really like to get to the bottom of this. Do you still have the /var/log/installer directory from that last install attempt? If so, can you attach the files from there? Just click 'Add attachment or patch' below.

Otherwise, are you able to reproduce this using the latest daily-live CD (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current )? If you can, when the install crashes, open a terminal and run `sudo apport-collect 748315`.

Thanks a bunch!

I needed the computer to work,
so I installed Ubuntu 10.10 and it is O.K.

I will be happy to help you.
If you like, tell me exactly what to test (I am no expert)
and I will follow your instructions and I will send you the results.
My hardware is ASUS N73JQ-TZ086X (with Intel Core i7).

Best regards
Pavel

I am probably getting the same error. While trying to fresh install ubuntu 11.04 from USB I get just before end this "partman" error and installer crashed. So I had to install 10.10 and use "update-manager -d" to get natty.
