This was in VirtualBox 4.0.2-69518~Ubuntu~maverick from virtualbox.org.

Rebooting gave me only a blank screen with a text cursor in the upper left corner.

Tried it again. First time I used "Try Ubuntu". Second time I used "Install Ubuntu". Both times I checked "Download updates while installing", "Install third party software", and "log in automatically".

The second time, instead of being asked to report a bug, I got the message "The installer encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now be run so that you may investigate the problem or try installing again."

So the bug reporting tool only works with an install via "Try Ubuntu", not "Install Ubuntu"?
