Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I just tried to install edgy onto an unformatted partition in a multi-boot system using the Desktop CD. The GUI installer failed to recognize the unformatted partition as the root partition, and could not go forward.

I would not like the GUI partitioner to manipulate the partitions, and typed "mke2fs -j /dev/hdxx" in gnome-termial instead. After clicking the "Back" button in the GUI installer, and then "Forward" again to restart the manual partitioner, the installer now allowed the partition to be used as root.

Expected result:

The GUI installer should allow unformatted partitions being used as devices to be mounted.
