Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat 64 bit on Sony Vaio Z (VPCZ13) via live cd. This possibly has to do with the default RAID 0 configuration of two combined 64 GB SSD hard disks, with Windows 7 pre-installed.

Checked with GParted and it doesn't recognize the RAID disk. It detects multiple drives sda, sdb and sdc. In Disk Utility it does detect a Mobile 82801 SATA RAID Controller with both disks and DVD underneath, and below Peripheral Devices there are 4 drives, the actual partitions as seen in Windows admin tool.

Maybe I need to remove RAID and reinstall Windows 7 on one drive, Ubuntu on the other. As there is no Windows installation disc with my new laptop, I hope that a shrink of the Windows partition (with Windows admin tools) can make it fit in one drive and won't break when I remove RAID 0.

I will try the alternate install CD first, before destroying my filesystem.

In Windows admin tool I managed to shrink the Windows partition and create 2 new raw partitions for Linux and swap. Tried installation of Ubuntu live cd again and didn't get any error. Ubuntu is now installed.
