First thing to do is make sure the CD was burned correctly - some times things go wrong, but problems don't show up until well into the install. Please refer to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CDIntegrityCheck - it shows how to verify that the CD is OK. Once we know whether or not the CD was OK, we can move on to other tests. Thanks!
