Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

when installing ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition on a clean install (wipe and use entire hard disk). The installer crashes towards the end of installation. After copying all the files it switches to "configuring apt" then "scanning CD rom - to allow applications to be installed from CD" at which point it throws an error "FAILURE -- no CD drive found".

Immediately after, you get a warning dialogue saying the installer crashed. So the evidence points to an issue with the installer not being able to locate a CD drive, However this being a netbook it has no CD drive anyway.

I had exactly the same problem and I have a CD-ROM drive. (My computer is an HP DV9000 laptop.) I decided to burn a CD and install from that instead, and that worked. (I had been booting from an external hard drive.) I suppose this doesn't help your situation though, but maybe it'll be useful for people who hit this page when googling that error, as I did.

I had this problem (or very similar). Near the end of install to EeePC 701SD an apt error window opened saying "An attempt to configure apt to install additional packages from the CD failed". I clicked OK and then the installer crashed. Log files very similar to those attached. I was using unetbootin to create the USB, but when I tried the pendrivelinux utility (v1.8.0.9) to create the USB my install worked perfectly.
