Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

1) 10.04 and 10.10beta (daily build of 30/09), 64-bit
2) ubiquity 2.4.4
3) expected it works
4) it doesn't

When I launch Live Ubuntu (try without installing on your computer) from a memory stick,
fdisk -l shows correctly all available disks:

sda - memory stick
sdb - built-in memory module
sdc - ExpressCard/34 64GB SSD (Verbatim)

My intention is to use the whole SSD for Linux, sda contains Live Ubuntu 64, created with unetbootin
on an up-to-date U10.04 (64).

When I click on the "Install Ubuntu" icon (or launch it as a sudo from the commant line),
it hangs indefinitely after "set your time zone"

When I choose the option "install" during the boot, it hangs showing "Preparing to install Ubuntu".

fdisk -l does not see the sdc SSD, only sda and sdb above.

I am attaching /var/log/syslog

This report is filed from another computer (so ignore the automatically collected stuff).

Besides, the ubuntu-bug utility is very buggy itself:

1) you need to be a superuser to file a bug, otherwise it crashes with access complaints
2) it needs a browser, so I cannot report this bug from the failed computer (it does not have
    the browser installed yet)

as I said the bug report system is very buggy:

the previous post actually contains apport.ubuquity.blabla

this is my attempt to attach two files: syslog and apport, only the last one was attached

The true syslog is attached here

confirming what I already said elsewhere: buggywise, Ubuntu becomes more and more M$oftish

I tried the latest alternate today's 10.10rc built

It hangs indefinitely with the following two lines:

1. partman: No matching physical volumes found
2. partman: Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while.

This while lasts without any progress for hours.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. If you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect 652886

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
