Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubiquity
There is no way to install to free space on the drive unless you use the advanced partition method. It should be simple to have it select the largest suitable free space on the disk and maybe even resize the naibouring partition.

I've hit this twice now. I dual boot Windows and shrunk my boot partition from inside it as I tend to trust MS tools manipulating their own partitions better. Both times I came into Ubuntu's installer and it acted as if there was no free space on the drive and that it had to shrink the existing boot partition.
