Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

In the Maverick Beta, installation is not possible when an external USB HDD is plugged in. The installer will get stuck at the screen that can be seen in the attached screenshot. Once the HDD is removed, the installation will continue.

As many people have their USB HDD plugged in as they have made back-ups before starting the installation, I propose to set this to high priority.

PS: I could not find any file "syslog"

Can you please run the installer until you get to that point, then run `apport-collect 634779`? Also, can you please attach the output of `sudo parted_devices` to this bug report?

Thanks!

Thanks for giving those instructions, Evan. I can confirm that this bug still occurs even with the most recent .iso downloaded from Ubuntu.com and have posted the stuff you wanted.

Here is the output from sudo parted_devices:
/dev/sda 250059350016 ATA ST9250827AS
/dev/sdb 500107862016 WD 5000BEV External

I really hope that helps, this is a bug that might potentially break a new user's installation experience. Please keep me up to date!

Evan, to my own surprise I think I must have been extremely stupid when I did that. What I did is I booted the live-cd, then ran the installer until that point, clicked on quit, did the stuff mentioned above, *without opening the installer again and going to the point where the problem is*.

Does the information now still help you or do you want me to do it all over again (would be no problem)?

To save everybody time I just ran apport again, now at the point where the installer will not continue. Also, here is again the output of sudo parted_devices

/dev/sda 250059350016 ATA ST9250827AS
/dev/sdb 500107862016 WD 5000BEV External

Interestingly, for the first time now the window in Installer - 1.png attached to this post popped up. After clicking on yes, I ended up at the same point again being stuck, as can be seen in Installer - 2.png.

Hope that helps.

Can anyone confirm whether this still occurs in Natty?
