Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Mint crashed at 94% completed in the install process. I attached a screen shot of the error window, but can't figure out how to attach syslog and partman. I've saved them and can email them to you if you need to see them. I"ll try to install again although I don't know why I should expect a better result without changing anything.

     Linus Mint 9 Isadora (9)
2) What you did for the problem to happen
I ran the install package and all looked well, then the crash. There seems to be an issue with power management?!?
3) What happened
Install crashed at 94% - screen shot of window at that point was provided, and is attached to this comment
4) What you expected to happen instead
Expected that the install would complete normally. Have not yet tried to re-install.

Thank you for taking the time to look into this. Please let me know if you need extra documentation.

Curious error from syslog there:
     Sep 2 11:53:45 mint ubiquity: /usr/bin/mandb:
Sep 2 11:53:45 mint ubiquity: can't write to /var/cache/man/20514: No space left on device

How big a root partition (/) did you allocate?

Russell Semen (rsemen) wrote :

I directed that it use an 8GB partition, But now that is fragmented (see attachment). I don't quite understand how that happened.

Ikey Doherty (ikey) wrote :

OK this definitely appears to be a bug within ubiquity itself.
Hopefully the Ubiquity guys will be able to isolate the error.

Had You used Linux Mint (open, test, install or uninstall applications) before install it?

Russell Semen (rsemen) wrote :

I booted from the CD and did the install. If I did look through some menus, that was about it. However, before I tried anything with Mint, I did shrink the partition on the c: drive by 8mb by mistake. I got rid of that and created a 8gb space, using Win7. I'm wondering now if that had anything to do with the problem. It seems very far fetched especially that the small fragment is not 8mb, but you never know.

Thank you for looking at the bug. However since I reported it, I've acquired a new computer and am running Mint 10. Sorry for not updating the bug report so that you wouldn't waste time looking at it but with no activity, it totally slipped my mind.

So along with Mint 10 and Open Office (gotta upgrade that), it is "Goodbye Microsoft" and I am happy.
