in stead of opening new files /var/log/syslog or /var/log/partman, KATE kept the /var/log/installer/syslog open without showing me these two files.

Hi Alex,

Could you please attach the other two files using the add attachment tool when you add a comment?
The files we need are /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman.

It would be great if you could also list the exact steps to recreate the bug (your bug report title already does a good job).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug.

Your log file indicates that you accidentally started up two instances of the installer, presumably by double-clicking again on the icon when it was taking a while to load. The version in Dapper exploded messily when you did this; I've since fixed it in Edgy (bug 46569) not to explode.
