Upon installing the bootloader at the tail-end of Ubuntu 6.06... CRASH!

Dual-boot, WinXP Home and (an attempted) Ubuntu on an XFS filesystem, both are 26GB partitions. In addition, there's one 512MB swap, and a 3GB XP recovery partition.

You know what, my bad... After some research, I found that there is a problem with loading GRUB on XFS, after a few failed installs, I created an ext3 /boot partition, now all is fine.

Well done. The logs indicate that this is the problem indeed. I'm marking this bug as a duplicate of bug 47848, which has been fixed in dapper-updates. Thanks for reporting this - please report anything else you find as well .
