Bug Description

Binary package hint: systeminstaller

Dapper Drake i386 Desktop CD, Kubuntu Netbook Edition Karmic i386 CD (2009-08-13)

After booting the live CD, I clicked the "Install" icon on the desktop.
In step three of the install wizard, it ask about the keyboard layout.

The problem is that it defaults to default 'US' layout, even if I choose an alternate keyboard map in Preferences or with setxkbmap.

Oh, it also forces the 104key layout, killing the key next to left SHIFT.
(off course I told it that I use a 105 key kbd just 5 minutes ago)

Confirmed on Gutsy Daily Build 22071003.

Clicked System->Preferences->Keyboard
Clicked Layouts
Clicked Add Button
Choose Layouts: Slovenia
Choose Variants: General
Click Add
Select Slovenia As default
Click Close
Open notepad and confirm 'z' and 'y' are swaped on my english keyboard
Launch Installer
Move to step 4 of 8
Selecting any combination of slovenia or english layouts does not have 'z' and 'y' swapped in the test box

I was unable to confirm the second half of the bug report using the Ubuntu AMD64 Beta CD. In regards to the first half I think the design is that one would choose the Layout when booting up the Live CD by pressing F2.

This bug remains in Karmic. I choose the default keymap in step 4 of the install and that works for the rest of the install (choosing name, password in step 6 etc) but it defaults back to USA after the installation. My choice of keymap (USA - Dvorak) isn't even listed explicitly in the login screen or in my preferences. I need to add it either in the login screen (as 'other') or through the Preferences → Keyboard → Layout option after I've logged in.
