Could you please attach /var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman to this bug, using the "Add Attachment" link on the bug's web page? Thanks in advance.

the particular error i mentioned on the way in says
"""
The test of the file system with type ext2 in partition #6 of SCSI3
(0,0,0) (sdc) found uncorrected errors.
"""

i can't procede to the install without mounting this partition (do you
really need to enforce every partition getting mounted?)
is the Alternate install CD or server cd more like the debian one ?
(im familiar with that)
ive never filed a bug with ubuntu before (im just trialing it for the
kids at school, going to give away loads of cds.), but am very pleased
with how proactive you are at squashing bugs - impressive

ill attach those files now,
cheers, tom

Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot filesystem. Bug 47848 is filed to note that the partitioner should warn you about this up-front.

Yes, the alternate install CD's installer is a version of the Debian installer.
