Been doing a bit of searching and noticed this is a known bug ( https:/ /launchpad. net/distros/ ubuntu/ +source/ ubiquity/ +bug/47848 ). Missing from my original report is the key bit of data - I was installing on XFS. Can't safely add a separate boot partition so I'll have to use JFS or ext3 (why no Reiser support any more?).
