Xubuntu Lucid fails to install; error message for "ubiquity.components.partman, 141 error" during partitioning

CD/DVD VARIANT: Xubuntu lucid-desktop-
ISO BUILD: dated 2010-01-08
SYMPTOMS: Installing from live desktop; clicked install. Proceeds normally through until partitioning the hard drive. Selected manual partiton, deleted existing partitions, then created new partitions for the installation. When trying to continue, I get an error each time: "ubiquity.
CAUSE: unknown
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. download and burn the lucid-desktop-
2. start the cd, proceed to the desktop
3. click the install icon
4. proceed with the installation
5. Select manual partitioning; delete all existing partitions.
6. partition the hard drive; I used one for sda1 for /, sda5 for /swap, sdb5 for /swap, and sdb7 for /home
7. click forward after partitioning
8. verify error
9. I can not continue beyond the partitioning screen.
There is no /var/log/ installer/ syslog in the log files.
