Bug Description

I was installing Ubuntu 6.06 to my Campaq 2410 laptop and crashed in the step after partitioning. This is the error message I got:

We're sorry; the installer crashed. Please file a bug report at https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+filebug and a developer will attend to the problem as soon as possible. To help the developers understand what went wrong, include the following detail in your bug report, and attach the files /var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman:

I can also attach the requested files but you got to show me how.

Well, after reading several other bug reports of similar errors, I guessed the problem was that the installer crashed on older configurations. The problem is solved by formating the disk on which I install Ubuntu. I however have to reinstall all the extra programs not included with Ubuntu and also reset my prefer setting. Fortunately, my data were saved in a separate disk. With this shortcoming of the installer, I warn anyone against doing an upgrade installation to Ubuntu 6.06.

Thanks for your report. At present, you must reformat system partitions (e.g. /, /boot, /usr, or /var) during installation; the fact that the partitioner doesn't warn you about this is also bug 47046, and is fixed in dapper-updates. If you are upgrading an existing installation, then please see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DapperUpgrades rather than using this installer.
