Thanks for your report. Due to some reliability problems with GRUB and XFS, you need to use a non-XFS root filesystem or create a non-XFS /boot filesystem. Bug 47848 is filed to note that the partitioner should warn you about this up-front.

It would crash when it got to installing Grub. I think problem was I was trying to install Grub on an XFS partition. The partitions were set manually using the Install CD.

200GB SATA drive:
2GB swap linux-swap
20GB / XFS
rest /home XFS

The crash kept on occuring until I set up a /boot partition with ext3. Then it installed without a problem.

Interestingly I tried to install Breezy (figuring I could upgrade from there) on the same partition setup (before the /boot partition) but it tried to install LILO explaining that Grub crashed on XFS. I forced it to install Grub and the Breezy install crashed.

After the installer crashed if I tried to boot into the system Grub would crash with Error 22 (No such partition - http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub.html#Troubleshooting)

After installing using the /boot partition Grub would crash with Error 17 (Cannot mount selected partition - see above link).

I disconnected my 20GB IDE backup drive and in the BIOS changed the SATA drive to Large instead of Auto, and reinstalled again. This time I managed to boot into Dapper.

I then reconnected my IDE drive and again managed to successfully boot into Dapper. Everything is still going well.
