Grub refuses to install from both live disk & alternate disk causing installation failure (64 bit)

Binary package hint: ubiquity
I have tried both installers for kubuntu 9.10 64 bit and everything works fine until it tries to install grub. This is using nvidia raid built into the motherboard (it worked fine with ubuntu 9.04 64 bit).

I see in syslog you posted that the instaler is uninstalling grub2 but you aren't getting legacy grub installed in it's place, maybe you aren't online during the install?
