Installer formats more than it's told

Bug Description

I just installed Kubuntu flight-7 and had to repartition my drive in order to get beyond the 2355 minimum size bug (reported as bug #45147).

My hard-drive setup:
hda1 hda4 < hda5 hda6 hda7 hda8 >
/boot (extd) /home swap / /usr
150MB 30GB 1GB 2.3GB 4.3GB

This is after the re-partitioning - the only difference is that hda7 and hda8 had different sized before (hda7 was 2GB, hda8 was 4.6GB). So I deleted them both and re-created them with the sized shown above - all was done from within the installer. I then proceeded to format them both as ext3.

When setting up the partitions, I checked the boxes for formating all partitions _except_ my /home partition (hda5). However, the installation has just completed, and all my partitions are formated (including hda5).

Yea, ok, so my purty partition setup ascii is shown differenty after posting than in the edit-box. Anyway, hope you see what I mean - I've no idea how to do the equivalent of HTML's pre-tag here (if it's even possible), and since there's no option to preview-before-posting I don't feel like experimenting too much with it :P

Thanks for your report. Could you please attach /var/log/partman (or /var/log/installer/partman if you've rebooted) to this bug? I'm pretty sure that this is bug 35079 (which is fixed in current daily builds) but of course with data-loss bugs I like to make sure. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

This is the logfile. Can't tell if it's the same bug or not, but I'm guessing you can ;)

I had the same issue with dapper amd64 beta2.

I made mount points for /, /swap and /home and asked it not to format any of them. In the ascii dialog it said it was going to format the / and /home partitions (but not the swap). As this was a clean install, I went ahead and said OK and it happily formatted both those partitions.

I checked for a /var/log/installer/partman file, but it doesn't seem to be there. If there's anything else I can do to help, let me know.

Is this still an issue with the final dapper installer, or with edgy?

Having been further prodded by bug 61732, I fixed this in the Edgy beta release. My apologies for any inconvenience caused.
