No explanation on partitioning screen of why dual-booting option isn't available

Bug Description

If there is not enough space on a disk to install Ubuntu alongside the operating systems already present, the installer hides that option.

This is good, but it may leave people who were expecting that option (such as people who have read the CD cover!) wondering why it isn't there.

There isn’t enough space to install Ubuntu inside Windows ... There isn’t enough space on any disk to install Ubuntu {this version} alongside {older version} ... There isn’t enough space on any disk to install Ubuntu alongside the other systems."

Confirming and moving to the "later" milestone. We'll work on this in Lucid.

Also ran into this on an HP 620 laptop that shipped with 4 primary partitions.
*I* saw the issue and laughed at HP's partition layout, but the student who came to me had no idea why it wouldn't let her do a dual-boot install.

I have a suspicion that we'll be seeing more machines with that configuration before EFI takes over.

For that four primary partitions case, Evan Dandrea is working on replacing "Install Ubuntu alongside Windows" with "Install Ubuntu inside Windows" that would restart the computer into Wubi.

However, this bug report is not about primary partitions, it is about having not enough disk space.

I thought release upgrades in Wubi systems were still known to be unreliable, and it wasn't recommended as a permanent Ubuntu install approach.

Fair enough. Bug forked as LP: #734031.

In the more current ubiquity we have the prepare page which warns about available disk-space. Of course that does not guarantee that side-by-side install will be available, but the title should be correct: "this computer has Windows on it, what do you want to do?". Is this sufficient?

I have updated the specification to cover this. In any case where the installer would offer to install Ubuntu alongside (or inside) existing systems, if there is not enough room, the radio button should still be present but insensitive, and the radio button's caption should be of the form "There isn't enough space ... to install {this system} alongside {other system(s)}."

That looks like a copy-paste error. I didn’t refer to any particular release.
