Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

After installing side by side on Alpha 5 with a Jaunty and XP partition, the installer failed to make them available on the boot menu.

Can you clarify what you mean by "failed to make them available on the boot menu"? Do you mean that your Windows XP installation did not show up in the GRUB boot menu, but the Ubuntu installation did?

Neither the XP, nor the 9.04 installation showed up in the menu on an
Alpha 5 install. The machine simply booted automatically into 9.10
without pausing to ask.

The one quirk of my setup is that my 9.04 is installed on an ext4
partition. Other than that it is a vanilla Jaunty/XP system.

Updating packages naturally fixed the problem as it runs update-grub
and update initramfs so it may have been a flaw with the packages on
the Alpha 5 CD. Needs testing though.
