Bug Description

Kubuntu 6.06 live-cd installation failed because the installer closed itself after entering user data. There are no error messages and I can't locate a log file for the install script otherwise I'd provide more data.

The system is an HP ze4145 laptop (AMD 1800+, 512MB RAM, Radeon IGP320M, 40G hard drive, DVD/CD-RW combo drive).

Potential workaround: I've downloaded the "install" cd and will try that tonight.

Please run 'ESPRESSO_DEBUG=1 sudo espresso' and attach /var/log/installer/espresso to this bug. Make sure to use a throwaway password, as in debug mode the password will appear in the log file.

You may also like to follow the instructions in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DapperBeta/PartitionTableCorruption before starting the installer, to avoid damage to your system.

Recreated on another system with the livecd (plus the patch mentioned above).

I see no way of "attaching" the log data, so I will paste it inline (what appears to be the relevant data from the 1,432 lines) below:

I'm also having this problem. My machine is a HP Vectra VL420, 512mb RAM, GeForce FX5500 graphics card, DVD drive, 200gb hard drive. I'm also using Kubuntu 6.06 beta.

downloading the patch, then running ESPRESSO_DEBUG=1 kdesu espresso kde-ui gives the following output in /var/log/installer/espresso:

Closing the bug - I had the same problem and it was fixed in Beta2.
Feel free to reopen if you can still reproduce the problem with Beta2 or newer.

Hi guys, I am comming from Windows and do not know, neither would like to know, how to fix the problem out of the graphic environment, terminal line commands. Does this makes me un fit to use Ubuntu?

Thanks
Tom
