Bug Description

Hope it can be made a solution for finding the best mirror at installation. I have installed Ubuntu several times (and versions) and the installation always hang on configuring apt (scanning the mirror). This happen every time. I come to 82% installation and "less than 1 min time left" and then the system hangs for maybe 2 hours. This could be avoided if the install did an automatic scan for the fastet mirror, independent of what country I'm in.

Is this a feature request for the installer? Is this for the live cd installer? It appears as though you want the installer to scan for the fastest mirror independent of the country in wish you live? I am subscripting the ubuntu-installer team.

Yes, this is from the live-CD install. I only start install from the CD, and this always happen.

I don't believe this is actually something that can be solved in apt, its rather a feature request for ubiquity.

Moving from apt -> ubiquity, and setting importance to Wishlist.

affects: apt (Ubuntu) → ubiquity (Ubuntu)
Changed in ubiquity (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
summary: - Slow internet
+ apt-mirror should be run during install to find a fast mirror (was: Slow
+ internet)

Has there been any progress on this?

Is there any way we can fit language packs on the cd?

IKT, there are a lot of other features planned for ubiquity.. so it looks like this one is still on the TODO list. I've marked it Confirmed, as I think its worth considering.

As far as the other question, it may be best to ask that in a forum or on the ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list ( http://lists.ubuntu.com/ )
